Sophie Müter
Sophie was born and raised in Amsterdam, where she started dancing various styles as at young age, until she stuck with Zumba from 2013 onward. In the spring of 2019 she discovered traditional bachata in the Dominican Republic by chance during an internship, and immediately fell in love with it. From then, she knew she wanted to focus on Latin-American dancing. She started taking regular classes in Bachata Moderna, Bachata Sensual, and LA Salsa later that same year in Edinburgh, where she spent five months through a student exchange program. During the time after, she focused mostly on Bachata Dominicana and Mambo.
She came to Uppsala in August 2021 to pursue a Master’s degree in Archaeology. Moving here rekindled her love for Bachata Sensual, which she started teaching at UDC in the spring term of 2022. She also got acquainted with Salsa Cubana here in Sweden, which is now by far her favourite style to dance within the realm of Salsa. She is currently broadening her horizon further, but her priority lays with Bachata Sensual.

Through dance, one can express aspects of oneself which may not come to the surface as much during day to day life. In each style, we can find a different side of who we are. I cannot think of a more enjoyable and rewarding way to get to yourself, as well as other people with whom we share this passion.
